Sounds interesting but I am not advanced using Boonex and worry messing something up? SSH/CACHE, etc. sounds scary. Any step by step directions anywhere? I log my changes so it is easier for me to remember how I did what I did or how to find it again.

Thanks. You can also clear the site's cache from the administration panel's dashboard. BoonEx Certified Host: Zarconia.net - Fully Supported Shared and Dedicated for Dolphin |
in order to manage a dolphin site, you are going to have rid yourself of the phobia. so the best thing to do would be to setup on a subdomain or addon domain, where you would be able to make such adjustments, and understand how the process works. without doing that, you are not going to get anywhere yourself with dolphin, and will end up forking out cash for every minor adjustment you wish to do. there is no cut-and-dry answer to your inquiry, the style sheets are many, and you have to get in the source if you wish to change certain aspects of the environment. you can use tools such as notepad++ decent editor with an ftp plugin. you would be able to make changes, save the file, and reload the site in your browser, and if the changes are not what were expected, you would hit ctrl+z on notepad++ which would undo the edits, hit save again, and the site would go back to its default state. by setting up a development environment, it would make no difference if you screwed things up or not, just reload dolphin, and try again. once you achieve the desired results on your test site, then you can take that knowledge to the development site. firefox has a utility called firebug which allows you to inspect DOM elements style elements and html elements, and if cache is turned off in your admin panel, lead you to exact file names and line numbers in most cases. chrome has relatively the same thing with web developer tools, where you can inspect the elements. but without getting your feet wet on this, you are not going to get anywhere any time soon.
good luck, and remember to always backup your work before making major changes.
NOTE - during development stages its always best to turn off system caching, as its more of a nuisance than it is a benefit. When a GIG is not enough --> Terabyte Dolphin Technical Support - Server Management and Support |

Thanks. We all have to try to work things out by ourselves as DosDawg said. All this takes time ALOT of time and patients. So you wont have your site up and running in a few days. UNLESS you have the money to pay a developer. As for me i just read and try to work my way through, if i get to somewhere i cant go any further and i search the forum and dont find my answer then i ask for help :) Geminixx Lives! |
