Youtube Video Embed Code

Is there a fix to make the youtube codes work without having to use the "old" codes to embed? I've created a faq topic on my site, explained it to members and it's STILL a huge issue. I want my user's experience to be as intuitive and painless as possible and that means adjusting dolphin to their expectations instead of trying to adjust each individual to dolphin's expectations on this one!

I'm not sure if the youtube cross poster will help with this, but it may be worth looking at    ; )

Fixed this with yet another paid module.

Whats so wrong with the "old embed code?"

Actuality it's easier  to use because it's the actual URL of the video. Just copy it..

Other are going though the trouble of clicking on "embed" then use old embed.. just look up at your address bar, it's the same link.

The problem is that people are stupid and they do whatever they are used to doing. So if they are used to hitting the 'share' button on youtube and grabbing that code, that's what they do. And when it doesn't work, they don't read the FAQ post that explains how to do it, they just think it's broken and/or email me asking about it.

I don't care what the reason or rational behind it is, I just want the seamless use of my site for my users. And evidently, from the number of times this has been addressed on the forums over the years, I'm not the only one who is experiencing issues with this with their site users.

That's pretty simple.

I understand your frustration, but who's to say youtube will not change the share feature to something else and then we are back to the same problem.. why not add a that to your FAQ.. "to embed a youtube video just copy the address bar URL"

I mean how simple can that be?

Please see my reply to post by nay27uk, where you mentioned a similar issue:

http://www.boonex.com/forums/topic/Embed-Videos-Does-Not-do-Anything-in-7-0-7.htm

There should be no need to get a mod to make this work, and the process is very easy to explain to members providing they are using the standard Dolphin flash apps in the basic install.  I've tested it for the address bar URL as well as the new, shorter share link.  Custom blocks are another matter, as discussed in one of the threads you referenced.

BTW, it may be simpler to explain the address bar URL, but the advantage I see to using the share link is how the address bar URL changes according to the way you navigate to a video, like from a user's homepage.

I think another simple way to tell members how to embed videos is to just edit the language file,

_bx_videos_Embed_example

this is the "Example: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_AANZvYn5uk" text line when you embed..

change to something like this

Example: Please use the address bar URL from the actual YouTube© video and not the share button option... <b>http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_AANZvYn5uk</b>

Actualy this embed feature only works if you use the very end of the URL after the = for example AANZvYn5uk

And then it will only work if the video is listed on the youtube RSS

Please provide a links of youtube videos that "don't" work for reference, a video that you say will not work. Take the URL and post it here.

The only links that don't work from the URL are vevo blend channels.

But if you make a good enough "Example" instructions under the language file _bx_videos_Embed_example so members can read this, why bother with the FAQ, no one reads them.

[edit]

Even the movie links work to embed by copying the URL, this one http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A7PqFWFXLaY&feature=watch-now-button&wide=1 does not look like the provided default example.

But embeds fine http://www.duvallocals.info/m/videos/view/Disturbed-2011-09-13
